Augusta National Golf Tournament: Final Standings

The final leaderboard for the Masters golf tournament, the first major of the year, is now available. The event, held at Augusta National in Georgia, saw Rory McIlroy emerge as the defending champion after a thrilling playoff victory over Justin Rose the previous year, making him the sixth player in history to achieve a career Grand Slam, a feat last accomplished by Tiger Woods. World No 1 Scottie Scheffler was the top contender to win the tournament for the third time despite not having a top 10 finish in his last three PGA Tour events. However, McIlroy successfully defended his title, making history in the process. McIlroy finished with a one-under 71, one stroke ahead of Scottie Scheffler, while Tyrrell Hatton was a further stroke back, tied for third place alongside Justin Rose, Cameron Young, and Russell Henley. Collin Morikawa and Sam Burns shared seventh place, and Max Homa and Xander Schauffele rounded out the top 10. Patrick Reed finished five under after a final-round 73, and Shane Lowry slipped out of contention with an eight-over 80. A total of 91 players participated in this week's major, the first of four in as many months in men's golf. The Masters is followed by the PGA Championship, the US Open, and The Open. The PGA Tour will head to South Carolina for the RBC Heritage at Hilton Head Island, with Justin Thomas returning as the defending champion. The next men's major, the PGA Championship, will be held from May 14-17 at Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
