Wessel Nijman continued his exceptional start to 2026 by claiming his fourth ranking title of the year, emerging victorious at the Players Championship 10 in Wigan. Nijman overwhelmed former Grand Slam of Darts champion Scott Waites 8-2 in the final, reclaiming the top spot in the Players Championship rankings. This triumph came after Chris Dobey briefly surpassed Nijman following his win at Players Championship Nine, only for the Dutchman to respond with a dominating performance at the Robin Park Tennis Centre. Nijman's path to victory included a hard-fought win against Martin Lukeman, followed by the defeat of Monday's runner-up Justin Hood, which marked the beginning of his impressive march towards the title. He then delivered a series of high-average performances, including a 109.71 average against Beau Greaves in the quarterfinals and a 108.46 average against Luke Woodhouse in the semifinals. In the final, Nijman capitalized on Waites' slow start to establish an early lead, setting the tone for a dominant display. Despite Waites narrowing the gap in the third leg, Nijman regained control and powered into a 7-1 lead, ultimately securing the title with a 101.34 average. Nijman reflected on his performance, stating, 'Today was probably the best floor event I've played all year. I hit many averages above 105, and it was a really good day.' He also expressed his happiness with his overall performance and noted that these types of events might suit him. With this win, Nijman climbs to 18th on the PDC Werner Rankings Ladder and sets his sights on more silverware at the European Darts Grand Prix.
