Adam Peaty Claims British 100m Title, Eyes Los Angeles 2028 Olympics

Adam Peaty, a three-time Olympic gold medalist, secured the 100 meters breaststroke title at the Aquatic Great Britain Swimming Championships, setting his sights on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Peaty's time of 58.97 seconds ranked as the second-fastest in the world this season, indicating he could be a strong contender for a medal in two years. He outperformed world junior champion Filip Nowacki, who finished second with a time of 59.39, and Max Morgan, who finished third with a time of 59.56. Despite his success, Peaty acknowledged there is still room for improvement. "I didn't expect to achieve that result, so it sets the baseline for me now," Peaty stated. "My goal is to work towards achieving a sub-57 second time again. As a competitor, I strive to bring out the best in myself." Peaty expressed his commitment to the sport, saying, "I'm still fully invested in swimming and train almost every day. I enjoy being in the water and want to make the most of my time." It's been nearly a year since Peaty announced his decision to continue competing. Peaty previously won the Olympic 100m breaststroke title at the 2016 Rio Olympics and successfully defended it at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where he also won gold in the 4x100m mixed medley relay. Following a break from swimming in 2023 due to mental health concerns, Peaty returned to competition. At the 2024 Paris Games, he faced physical challenges, including a positive COVID-19 test, and ultimately took silver in the 100m breaststroke. If Peaty wins gold in 2028, he will become the oldest British swimmer to achieve this feat at the age of 33.
