Rahm Downplays Concerns Over LIV Golf's Future

Jon Rahm, a prominent figure in LIV Golf, claims he is not overly concerned about the league's future despite speculation surrounding its financial stability. Rumors have circulated that LIV may lose its funding from Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, which has been supporting the format, after the fund announced a new five-year investment strategy without mentioning LIV Golf. However, Rahm remains unfazed, stating that he wasn't too worried about the rumors as he believes those in charge would have informed him if there were any validity to the claims. LIV Golf's latest event in Mexico City experienced some technical difficulties, but the tournament proceeded as planned. Rahm shot a 65, placing him second behind Victor Perez. In a statement, Rahm expressed his focus on preparing for the tournament, rather than worrying about the rumors. The Daily Telegraph reported that LIV Golf executives were summoned to an emergency meeting in New York, while the Financial Times stated that Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund was considering cutting its support for LIV Golf. The Money in Sport newsletter reported that LIV Golf had already spent $5.3 billion and was projected to surpass $6 billion by the end of the year. LIV Golf launched in 2022, paying roughly $1 billion in signing bonuses to notable golfers such as Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, and Phil Mickelson. The league's CEO, Scott O'Neil, remains optimistic about the circuit's future, citing its revenue growth and sponsorship deals with big brands like Rolex and HSBC. O'Neil believes that LIV Golf will continue to evolve and grow, and that its existence is beneficial for the sport as a whole, providing more opportunities for golfers and fans alike.
