Great Britain Secures Spot in Billie Jean King Cup Finals with Stunning Victory Over Australia

The British team, led by captain Anne Keothavong, triumphed over Australia in their qualifier, with Jodie Burrage and Harriet Dart winning the decisive doubles match in straight sets. The duo defeated Storm Hunter and Ellen Perez 6-3, 6-4, securing a 3-0 victory for Great Britain. Burrage and Dart had trailed 3-1 in the first set but made a remarkable comeback after the roof on John Cain Arena was closed, winning five consecutive games. The pair then served out the match in the second set, securing the win for their team. An emotional Burrage expressed her pride in the team's performance, saying, "That feels amazing... I'm proud of us for the way that we played." Dart added, "It's crazy actually because we played pretty well and to be able to make the finals is just kind of surreal." The British team had taken charge with singles victories from Harriet Dart and debutant Mika Stojsavljevic on Friday, despite missing key players Emma Raducanu, Sonay Kartal, Katie Boulter, and Fran Jones. Great Britain will now compete in the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Shenzhen, China, in September, alongside the other six tie winners from the qualifiers and host nation China. Captain Keothavong expressed her joy, saying, "We're all just overjoyed... it's been an unbelievable week here in Melbourne, and the tennis that was played yesterday and today was just fantastic." Keothavong believes Great Britain is "due something special" after reaching the semi-finals last year and is confident that her team can make a strong showing in the finals.
