McIlroy Vows to Improve in Pursuit of Masters Title

Rory McIlroy has acknowledged the need to elevate his performance if he is to successfully defend his Masters title, following a third round that saw him relinquish a six-shot lead. Despite starting strongly with rounds of 67 and 65, McIlroy's one-over par 73 on Saturday left him level with Cameron Young on 11 under. McIlroy struggled with his iron play, hitting just 10 of the 18 greens in regulation, and made three bogeys, including a double bogey at the 11th after finding the water. Speaking after his round, McIlroy reflected on the challenges he faced, stating, 'I knew today wasn't going to be easy. The quality of the chasing pack was very obvious, and a lot of the guys went out and played superb golf.' He expressed his intention to regroup and improve for the final day, saying, 'I still have a great chance, but if I'm going to win tomorrow, I'm going to have to be a little bit better than I was today.' McIlroy's victory last year marked the end of an 11-year major drought and the completion of a career Grand Slam. He believes that having won last year and being in a different final playing group will aid his chances, allowing him to 'play a little bit freer' and 'like I've already got a green jacket.' Sky Sports Golf's Rich Beem has expressed his confidence in McIlroy's resilience, saying, 'He's got such a great mindset to just forget, forget exactly what happened the day before, or even two or three holes ago. He's not afraid to fail.' The final round of the Masters will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Golf, with coverage beginning at 4:30pm on Sunday.
