Manchester United Edges Closer to Securing Mainoo's Future

Manchester United's manager, Michael Carrick, has expressed optimism that the club is nearing a new deal with midfielder Kobbie Mainoo. As reported by Sky Sports News in March, both Mainoo and defender Harry Maguire were on the verge of agreeing to new terms, with Maguire's contract being announced recently. Although Mainoo's deal has yet to be confirmed, it is believed to include a substantial pay increase, reflecting his progress over the past few seasons and his current status within the first team. His current contract, signed in 2023 at the age of 17, runs until the summer of 2027. The proposed new agreement is a five-year deal that would run until 2031, better reflecting Mainoo's value to the team. Carrick, whose own future at the club remains uncertain, stated that the club is making progress in securing a new contract with the midfielder. When asked about the possibility of Mainoo signing a new deal with Manchester United, Carrick said, "We're hopeful that it will happen. It's getting closer, and we're feeling positive about it, but only time will tell. We're in a good place with him." The signing of a new deal would mark a significant turnaround in Mainoo's fortunes at Old Trafford. Previously, under former head coach Ruben Amorim, Mainoo was not part of the plans, and his future seemed certain to be elsewhere. However, since Carrick took over, the midfielder has featured in each of the ten Premier League matches on United's fixture list and has become a regular starter. Mainoo was also included in Thomas Tuchel's latest England squad, featuring in both games against Uruguay and Japan. Being the manager of Manchester United has become a highly challenging task, with six managers succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson, all of whom eventually succumbed to the pressure. This summer, a seventh manager will be chosen, and Michael Carrick appears to be on course to take the position. By winning seven of his 10 games since January and lifting United up to third in the Premier League, Carrick has made a return to the Champions League more likely. It would now be a surprise if a top-five finish did not secure the deal for him. "The pressure is something I have lived with for a long time. What's expected here, how to achieve things, the amount of support we have, and the scrutiny becomes normal after a while. It doesn't feel as big as it probably looks from the outside for me personally."
