Can Ngumoha's Impact Spark Liverpool's Comeback Against PSG?

Liverpool's £440m summer investment has yet to yield the desired results, but a 17-year-old academy product has ignited a spark in their dwindling season. The question now is whether this teenage sensation can inspire a remarkable Anfield comeback against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. With Liverpool's manager Arne Slot's future potentially hanging in the balance, Ngumoha's impressive display against Fulham has presented the Dutch coach with a selection dilemma. Ngumoha, who became Liverpool's youngest Premier League goalscorer at Anfield, was instrumental in a performance that has rekindled hope in their bid to secure a Champions League spot for next season. Liverpool's grip on fifth place has tightened, which could be sufficient to confirm their participation in next season's competition. However, despite his stellar showing in only his second Premier League start, Jamie Redknapp believes Ngumoha might be more effective as a substitute against PSG. Redknapp stated, 'If Slot did start him, I wouldn't be surprised.' He added, 'I think the midfield that ended up playing against Fulham, with Mac Allister, Gravenberch, and Szoboszlai, has a bit of everything. That was the midfield that largely won the league for Liverpool last year.' Redknapp also suggested that if Hugo Ekitike starts as the No 9, Florian Wirtz might be needed on the left side, with Mohamed Salah on the right. He noted, 'That feels like it has a nice shape to it, reminiscent of last year. You've got Isak to come off the bench if needed, and then Rio to provide a bit of X factor.' Redknapp guaranteed that Ngumoha would get valuable minutes in the game, saying, 'If you can stay in the game, you don't have to win it in the first 20 minutes, but you can certainly lose it. It might be one where you get those two players on towards the end, and that might just be able to get you a goal, lift the crowd.' Redknapp also shared insights into Ngumoha's rise, having known him since he was seven. He revealed, 'The potential was so obvious. Everybody could see it. He had a natural X factor.' Ngumoha was at Chelsea at the same time as Redknapp's son, Beau, before joining Liverpool in 2024. Redknapp recalled, 'It was quite staggering to see. His brother played a big part in his development, doing a lot of one-on-one coaching with him.' He praised the dedication and hard work Ngumoha has shown, saying, 'I've never seen a kid with such fast feet, but it was repetition after repetition.' Ngumoha's journey from Chelsea to Liverpool, where he left at 16, was not easy, but he has now forced his way into the first team squad. Redknapp concluded, 'He's doing extremely well. He's got to keep his head on his shoulders and keep working hard. He's got great experienced players like Andy Robertson around him. I'm delighted. He's a really good young man, and it's amazing to see him thrive.'
