LIV Golf CEO Addresses Financial Concerns Amid Speculation

LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil has downplayed concerns over the series' funding, stating that it is secured through the current season and that the organization will work diligently to ensure its continuation. This comes amid speculation that the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF), which backs the breakaway golf league, may withdraw its financial support. The PIF has invested a reported $5 billion in the series since its inception in 2021. O'Neil's comments follow remarks by LIV team captain Sergio Garcia, who alluded to funding being in place until 2030 but declined to provide further details. The LIV Golf chief executive emphasized that the series operates like any other private equity-funded business, with a focus on creating a viable business plan to drive growth. Earlier, O'Neil assured LIV staff that the current season would proceed as planned, despite reports of an 'emergency meeting' in New York and speculation about the PIF's potential decision to end funding. The PIF has not commented on the matter, but its governor, Yasir Al Rumayyan, recently announced a four-year strategy that involves reviewing certain investments due to economic feasibility and the Middle East conflict. Some LIV Golf players have expressed confusion over the reports, but Ryder Cup star Jon Rahm stated that he is 'not too worried' about the series' future, choosing to focus on the ongoing tournament in Mexico City instead.
