Manchester United Edges Closer to Securing Mainoo's Future
According to Michael Carrick, Kobbie Mainoo is nearing a new contract with Manchester United. In March, it was reported that Mainoo and Harry Maguire were close to agreeing new terms, with Maguire's deal announced last week. Mainoo's current contract, signed in 2023, is set to expire in 2027, but the proposed new deal would include a significant pay rise and run until 2031. Carrick expressed optimism about the situation, stating that it's 'getting closer' and the club is in a 'good place' with the midfielder. This potential new contract marks a significant turnaround for Mainoo, who was not part of previous head coach Ruben Amorim's plans. Since Carrick took over, Mainoo has become a regular feature in the team, playing in each of the last ten Premier League matches, and was also included in Thomas Tuchel's latest England squad. With Carrick's own future at the club still uncertain, he has made a strong case for becoming the permanent manager, having led the team to seven wins in ten games and lifting them to third in the Premier League.
