Can India Afford to Overlook Sooryavanshi, and Is England Next in Line?

At just 15 years old, cricket sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has already made history by becoming the youngest player to score a century in the Indian Premier League (IPL), achieving this feat a mere nine days after his record-breaking debut as a 14-year-old in 2025. Now, Sooryavanshi continues to impress, sparking discussions about his potential debut on the international stage. His remarkable journey began with a 35-ball hundred in his debut IPL season, and he has since proven his staying power in the 2026 edition, displaying an extraordinary ability to perform under pressure with the Rajasthan Royals. With two 15-ball fifties against the Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and a total of 200 runs from five innings at a strike rate of 263.15, Sooryavanshi is the third-highest run-scorer in the tournament. Although a golden duck in a recent match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad served as a reminder of his mortality, Sooryavanshi's power, physical presence, and composure at the crease have left seasoned professionals in awe. "It's unbelievable how he can hit the ball like that. He's a great talent, and we're glad to have him on our team," said India and Rajasthan Royals wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel. "When Vaibhav is smashing every ball, it feels like nothing is happening on the wicket. Cricket isn't as easy as he makes it look." With potential international teammates like Jurel singing his praises, the question remains whether India will utilize Sooryavanshi's talents on the global stage. Given India's recent T20 World Cup win and an abundance of emerging talent, it's unclear whether selectors will alter their winning formula. However, every so often, a player emerges who simply cannot be ignored. Sooryavanshi appears to be cut from the same cloth as legendary cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal. His impressive 175 in the U19 World Cup final against England in February, which led India to a record sixth title, demonstrated his ability to perform against the best. With a packed summer of white-ball fixtures on the horizon, Sooryavanshi may soon make his international debut, potentially in the upcoming series against Afghanistan or in the UK against Ireland and England. Whether it happens this summer or not, it's only a matter of time before Sooryavanshi receives the call from India, putting the cricket world on notice.
