Nijman Claims Fourth Ranking Title of 2026 with Dominant Performance
Wessel Nijman continued his impressive start to 2026 by securing his fourth ranking title of the year at the Players Championship 10 in Wigan. Nijman defeated former Grand Slam of Darts champion Scott Waites 8-2 in the final, reclaiming the top spot in the Players Championship rankings. This victory came after Chris Dobey briefly overtook Nijman following his win at Players Championship Nine, but Nijman responded with a strong performance at the Robin Park Tennis Centre. Following a tough win against Martin Lukeman, Nijman went on to defeat Justin Hood, prompting a streak of victories that led him to the title. He achieved impressive averages, including 109.71 against Beau Greaves in the quarterfinals and 108.46 against Luke Woodhouse in the semifinals. In the final, Nijman took advantage of Waites' slow start and established an early lead, setting the tone for a dominant display. Despite Waites narrowing the gap in the third leg, Nijman regained control with a 12-darter and went on to win with a 101.34 average. Nijman reflected on his performance, stating it was probably his best floor event of the year, and he's targeting more success in the upcoming European Darts Grand Prix.
