Liverpool Must Offload Players to Facilitate New Signings, Says Arne Slot

According to Arne Slot, Liverpool will be required to generate funds through player sales before making any new additions to the squad this summer. Following a record-breaking spend of £446.5m last summer, the club is now facing a challenging rebuild, with key players like Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson set to depart on free transfers and Hugo Ekitike potentially out with a serious injury. The club's previous summer spending was funded by the sale of several players, including Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, and Caoimhin Kelleher. With many of last summer's recruits struggling with form and fitness, Slot emphasized the need to sell players to finance new signings. He stated, 'We are losing Mo and Andy Robertson on a free transfer, and this model of the club means that we have to sell, usually, to buy. It's a big challenge, but this club has shown many times that this model works and we can be very successful.' Slot's comments come amid uncertainty surrounding his own future, with his contract set to expire in a year and the team's Champions League qualification hanging in the balance. Liverpool currently occupies a Champions League qualifying spot, but faces a tough run of games, including Sunday's Merseyside derby against Everton.
