Nunez: My Goal is to Become a Champion with Ipswich

Marcelino Nunez is preparing for a fiery reception when he returns to his former club, Norwich, with his new team, Ipswich, on Saturday. Nunez made the switch from Norwich to Ipswich in August, becoming the first player to do so since Andy Marshall in 2001. He played a crucial role in helping Ipswich beat their rivals for the first time in 16 years, with a 3-1 win. "It was a significant challenge, but we managed to turn it around and end the run. I was really happy about it," Nunez said. His celebrations after the game, where he waved a corner flag in front of jubilant Ipswich fans, were a testament to his emotions. "It was natural; it just came to me spontaneously. In South America, when you win a big derby, you celebrate a lot, and that South American side of me came out a bit," he explained. Nunez is not intimidated by the hostile reception that awaits him at Carrow Road. Having played in intense derbies in South America, he feels well-equipped to handle the pressure. "I know there's going to be a bit more heat on me because of the fans and my transfer, but it motivates me. I'm motivated to face the game on Saturday," he said. Ipswich's ambition to reach the Premier League was a major factor in Nunez's decision to join the club. "I was very clear about my goal, which was to fight for the championship. That's why I made the decision to move to Ipswich. The fans welcomed me incredibly well, and overall, I'm very happy with the team and the manager," he said. Nunez has played a vital role in Ipswich's success this season, with eight assists and three goals, including two free-kicks in a 4-1 win over QPR. He credits manager Kieran McKenna for his impact. "He is one of the best coaches I've had in my career. He organizes training sessions incredibly well, and he knows how to keep the dressing room united. He gives the players lots of confidence," Nunez said. With seven remaining Championship games, Nunez is relaxed about Ipswich's promotion prospects. Reaching the Premier League would be a dream come true for him. "I always dreamt about it, but I never imagined it would happen so quickly. It's something incredible that's happening, and it's close, so we just have to focus on each match. We have the games in hand, so it's up to us," he said.
