The world champions, who defeated Canada in the World Cup final in September, secured a 34th consecutive Test victory with tries from Bern, Amy Cockayne, Jess Breach, and Ellie Kildunne. However, Jones, who led the team for the first time in the absence of World Cup-winning captain Zoe Stratford, admitted that England were not at their best. 'I think there were always going to be nerves going into a big campaign after an amazing World Cup,' Jones said. 'We wanted to play in front of big crowds, and that's what we got today. We found our way, and that's what a winning team does.' Bern also recognized that the new-look side, which featured only seven survivors from the World Cup final, was unlikely to gel immediately. 'We've got a new combination of players, and we've got a lot of youngsters in,' she said. 'We knew it wasn't going to be perfect, and we were never expecting that.
