Double Injury Setback for England Women's Six Nations Team
England's Women's Six Nations aspirations have been dealt a significant blow, with the loss of Morwenna Talling and Natasha Hunt due to leg injuries sustained during the team's 33-12 victory over Ireland at the Allianz Stadium. The injuries occurred in the second half of the match, which was attended by a record-breaking 77,120 spectators. Talling, who started the game, was forced off after 43 minutes, while Hunt, who came on as a substitute, lasted only 13 minutes before being replaced due to her injury. This latest setback means that England will have to adapt without several key players, including Talling, who joins a list of absent locks that already includes Zoe Stratford, Abbie Ward, and Rosie Galligan, all of whom have withdrawn from the tournament due to pregnancy. England head coach John Mitchell acknowledged the challenge posed by these injuries, stating, 'We've lost four international locks, so we might end up being a team of back-rowers by the end of the competition. There are different ways to approach this game, and if we need to rely on back-rowers, we'll find a way to make it work.' Talling and Hunt will remain with the England squad to consult with specialists before commencing their rehabilitation at their respective clubs, Sale and Gloucester-Hartpury. In response to these injuries, the RFU has confirmed that Sydney Gregson and the uncapped Haidee Head have been added to the squad in preparation for the upcoming match against Scotland at Murrayfield.
