Cartwright Feels Betrayed After Abrupt Hull FC Exit Announcement

Former Hull FC head coach John Cartwright expressed feelings of betrayal and disrespect following the unexpected announcement of his departure from the club. Cartwright's exit was confirmed by Hull FC on April 7, with the decision to part ways set to take effect at the end of the current Betfred Super League season. Despite the news, Cartwright has yet to receive an explanation for the decision. In a recent interview, Cartwright stated, "I still haven't been given a reason, to be honest with you. I don't know. I have asked and I expect to sit down with someone in the not-too-distant future." Cartwright took the helm at the MKM Stadium in 2025, leading the team to a seventh-place finish, their highest since 2020. The club has already begun the process of finding a new coach for the 2027 season, with Cartwright's current contract set to expire. He emphasized his commitment to his job, saying, "I'll still do my job. I won't do anything that will put that at risk." Cartwright's departure comes as a surprise, given the team's current ninth-place standing in Super League, with three wins and four defeats in their first seven matches.
