Garnacho Reflects on Manchester United Departure, Admitting Past Mistakes

Alejandro Garnacho has shared his thoughts on his departure from Manchester United, acknowledging that he made mistakes during his final six months at the club. Garnacho's £40m move to Chelsea last summer followed a pre-season where he was not part of Ruben Amorim's first-team squad. Prior to his exit, Garnacho was spotted wearing an Aston Villa shirt with Marcus Rashford's name, sparking controversy. After the Europa League final loss to Tottenham, Garnacho's brother claimed he had been poorly treated by Amorim. When asked about his regrets over leaving Old Trafford, Garnacho expressed appreciation for the club, stating, "Maybe yes, because I loved that club. They gave me confidence from the start, from Spain to the academy, then to the first team. It was like four or five years, and I received amazing love from everyone." He continued, "In the last six months, I was not playing like before. I started to be on the bench, which isn't a bad thing, but in my mind, I had to play every game. I was only 20 years old, and maybe I started to do some bad things." Garnacho is now proud to be at Chelsea, a club where he can grow and compete in the Premier League. Amorim reflected on Garnacho's departure, saying, "You can understand, he's a really talented boy, and sometimes things don't work out. You cannot explain specifically what it is, but I have the feeling that Garnacho wants a different thing with a different leadership, and I can understand that. It's not a problem; sometimes you adapt to one guy, you have the connection, and other times, you want a new challenge. We try to make everything OK for all parties - the club, the coach, and the players. It's a natural thing in football."
