Stokes Aims for May Return Following 'Fortunate' Training Mishap

England Test captain Ben Stokes is planning to make his return to cricket in May, following a 'fortunate' escape from a serious training accident. Stokes suffered a broken cheekbone and other facial injuries after being hit by a cricket ball while coaching Durham's academy players in February. He underwent surgery and is now on track to play for Durham in two County Championship matches, as well as potentially featuring for England Lions against South Africa A. Stokes described the incident as 'pretty nasty' but acknowledged it could have been much worse. He said, 'I copped one straight in the face. If I hadn't turned my head, I might not be here doing this interview.' Stokes is expected to lead England in their first Test of the summer against New Zealand at Lord's, as they look to bounce back from their 4-1 Ashes defeat. He has also dismissed suggestions that he and head coach Brendon McCullum are not aligned, insisting that differences of opinion are essential for a healthy and successful sporting relationship.
