McIlroy Vows to Improve for Masters Victory

Rory McIlroy acknowledges he must elevate his game to successfully defend his Masters title after relinquishing a six-stroke lead during the third round. McIlroy began the tournament strongly, with rounds of 67 and 65, but a one-over-par 73 on Saturday left him tied with Cameron Young at 11 under. He struggled with iron accuracy, hitting only 10 of 18 greens in regulation, and made three bogeys along with a double bogey at the 11th hole after finding the water. In a post-round interview with Sky Sports Golf, McIlroy expressed his awareness of the challenge, stating, "I knew today wasn't going to be easy, given the quality of the chasing pack." Despite his lackluster performance, McIlroy remains optimistic about his chances, saying, "I still have a great chance... I'm in the final group, which is exactly where you want to be." McIlroy aims to draw on his experience of winning the Masters last year to complete a career Grand Slam, and believes playing in a different final group will aid his chances. Golf analyst Rich Beem thinks McIlroy's resilience will enable him to bounce back from the disappointment of losing his lead and perform well in the final round.
