Goldinthesea Aims for Winning Debut at Southwell

Wednesday evening promises to be an exciting one with competitive All-Weather racing at Southwell, broadcast live on Sky Sports Racing. One of the highlights is the Come Racing For Free 18th June Novice Stakes, where three promising colts are set to clash. Goldinthesea, having recently switched from Joseph O'Brien's to Ed Bethell's yard, is an interesting contender. He showed impressive form at Dundalk in January, a performance that has been bolstered by the third-place finisher's subsequent win. As a son of No Nay Never, he has the potential for a successful future with his new connections. Penny Time, trained by Hugo Plamer, is another exciting entry, having convincingly won at Southwell last month. This could be his third win in as many starts. Owen Burrows' Sassicaia has only raced once, winning at Wolverhampton in December, and like the others, his potential is still largely untapped. Debutant Shadow Boxer, representing Victorious Forever, was purchased for €520,000, and the market will provide more insight into his abilities. Another highly competitive race is the Ladies Day Sunday 16th August Fillies' Handicap, featuring three winners from their last outings. Cool Molly, after winning the All-Weather Vase Fillies' Handicap at Lingfield, is up three pounds and commands respect, given her recent form with two wins in her last three starts. Vencedora, carrying Sheikh Mohammed Obaid's colors, is lightly raced and makes her first appearance of the season after a win at Newmarket in September. Rogue Citation, representing The Rogues Gallery, has a similar profile to Vencedora, with her only win coming in her last outing here in October. It will be intriguing to see how these less raced fillies match up against the race-fit Cool Molly. The evening concludes with the Summer Socials At Southwell Racecourse Fillies' Handicap, where Seven Fires attempts to secure a hat-trick in just her fifth career start. Her versatility was on display at Newcastle, where she won by making all on debut and then coming from off the pace last month. She steps back up to six furlongs and is expected to be tough to beat. Top-rated Barefoot Beach, despite having only run twice, aims to return to winning form after a close second at Kempton. Zighy, having finally broken her maiden, could yet prove to be even better, given her consistent form in all five starts. Other notable races include the 6:30 Southwell, where Betelgeuse seeks another course and distance win, and action from Happy Valley with jockeys Zac Purton, Harry Bentley, Hugh Bowman, and Andrea Atzeni in action.
