The World Snooker Championship is set to commence, with defending champion Zhao Xintong returning to the Crucible Theatre. Ronnie O'Sullivan will be making a bid for a record eighth title, facing stiff competition from Judd Trump, Mark Selby, Kyren Wilson, Neil Robertson, and Shaun Murphy, starting April 18. The tournament boasts a rich history, dating back to 1927, with legendary players like Joe Davis and Steve Davis dominating the sport in their respective eras. O'Sullivan and Stephen Hendry have also left their mark, each winning seven titles. This year, Zhao aims to overcome the 'Crucible Curse' and become the first debut winner to successfully defend the trophy. O'Sullivan, who will be making his 34th consecutive appearance, starts his campaign on April 21, with the top 16 seeds drawn against the qualifying round winners on April 16. The first-round matches will be best of 19 frames, with the top seeds in action from the first day. The tournament will also feature additional bonuses for maximum breaks, with a £147,000 prize for any player making two maximums across the Triple Crown events and the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters.
