Nunez: My Goal Is to Become a Champion with Ipswich

Marcelino Nunez is preparing for a heated reception at Carrow Road on Saturday, following his high-profile move from Norwich to Ipswich in August. The Chilean midfielder became the first player to make the switch between the two clubs since 2001, and his £10m transfer has added extra spice to this weekend's East Anglian derby. Nunez has already made a significant impact at Ipswich, helping his new side beat Norwich for the first time in 16 years with a 3-1 win. 'It was a big task, but we managed to turn it around and end the run,' he says. 'I was really happy about it.' The 26-year-old's celebrations that day, which included waving a corner flag in front of jubilant Ipswich fans, were a testament to his passion and commitment to his new club. Nunez is unfazed by the hostility that awaits him at Carrow Road, citing his experience of playing in intense derbies in South America. 'I've played under pressure, and I think that works in my favour,' he explains. 'I know there will be a bit more heat on me, but it motivates me. I'm motivated to face the game on Saturday.' Ipswich are chasing promotion to the Premier League, and Nunez is confident that his new side has the quality and resources to achieve their goal. 'We are very united and focused on our objective, which is to get promoted to the Premier League,' he says. 'I think we will reach the Premier League. I want to experience that feeling.' Nunez has been instrumental in Ipswich's success this season, with eight assists and three goals to his name. He credits manager Kieran McKenna with helping him to settle into his new role and providing him with the confidence to perform at his best. 'He is one of the best coaches I've had in my career,' Nunez says. 'He organises the training sessions incredibly well, and he gives the players lots of confidence.' With seven games remaining in the Championship season, Nunez is determined to help Ipswich take a step closer to the Premier League. 'We have the games in hand, so it's up to us,' he says. 'What I see in the team is that it's a very solid group. We just have to focus on each match and take it step by step to achieve our goal.'
