Bromley Miss Opportunity for Promotion After Goalless Draw with Cambridge

Bromley's bid for promotion to League One has been put on hold after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Cambridge United at Hayes Lane. Cambridge had two golden opportunities to take the lead within the first 15 minutes, with Ben Knight and Dominic Ball both missing chances. Knight failed to convert when one-on-one with Grant Smith, while Ball's shot from Liam Bennett's cross went narrowly wide. It took Bromley 25 minutes to create their first scoring chance, with Omar Sownunmi's header sailing over the crossbar after beating goalkeeper Jack Walton. Cambridge threatened again on the half-hour mark, as Shayne Lavery's header from Adam Mayor's cross crashed against the bar. The second half was slow to get going, but Knight's powerful shot on the angle forced a sharp save from Grant Smith, which sparked the hosts into life. Ben Thompson then had an effort from close range saved by Walton, before Jude Arthurs' follow-up chance was deflected over. With 10 minutes remaining, Smith made a spectacular save to tip Kelland Watts' header over, but despite a late goalmouth scramble, neither side could find a breakthrough.
