World Snooker Championship Schedule: O'Sullivan Aims for Historic Eighth Title

The World Snooker Championship is set to begin, with defending champion Zhao Xintong returning to the Crucible and Ronnie O'Sullivan bidding for a record eighth title. They will face stiff competition from Judd Trump, four-time champion Mark Selby, Kyren Wilson, Neil Robertson, and Shaun Murphy, starting on April 18. The tournament, steeped in history since 1927, has seen legendary players like Joe Davis, Steve Davis, and Stephen Hendry dominate the sport. O'Sullivan, who will be making his 34th consecutive appearance, and fellow seven-time champion Hendry have left their mark on the championship. This year, Zhao will attempt to overcome the 'Crucible Curse' and become the first maiden winner to successfully defend the title. O'Sullivan's journey begins on April 21, and if he and John Higgins advance, they will face each other in the last 16. The top 16 seeds will be drawn against the 16 qualifying round winners on April 16. All first-round matches are best of 19 frames, with seeds in brackets. The tournament will feature notable matches, including Zhao Xintong vs. Liam Highfield and Judd Trump vs. Gary Wilson. Additional bonuses will be offered for maximum breaks made during the tournament, including a £147,000 bonus for any player who makes two maximums across the season's Triple Crown events and the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters. Since 1977, there have been 24 different champions, with Stephen Hendry and Ronnie O'Sullivan sharing the record of seven crowns each.
