Tom Watson Criticizes PGA Tour for Allowing LIV Golf Defectors to Return

Golf legend Tom Watson has expressed his disapproval of the PGA Tour's decision to allow players who defected to the LIV Golf League to return to the tour. The PGA Tour introduced a program that enables a select group of top performers to rejoin, with Brooks Koepka taking advantage of the offer after leaving LIV Golf at the end of the previous season. As part of his reinstatement, Koepka agreed to make a $5 million charitable donation, while Patrick Reed is also set to return after leaving LIV Golf. Watson stated that the PGA Tour reneged on its initial promise to ban players who joined LIV Golf for life. He believes that players who want to return to the PGA Tour should be required to play on the Korn Ferry Tour for a year to qualify. Watson also emphasized the importance of protecting sponsors, who need top players to promote their tournaments. Reed, who is set to return to the PGA Tour, confirmed his departure from LIV Golf and expressed his desire to compete against the best players in the world on the PGA Tour.
