Fury Vows to Set Example with Makhmudov Showdown

During their final press conference on Thursday, Arslanbek Makhmudov playfully swept Tyson Fury off his feet in a bear hug. Fury took the gesture in stride, having earlier teased Makhmudov and even been lifted into the air by his opponent. As Fury prepares to face Makhmudov, he is determined to embark on a journey to become a three-time world champion. Following a brief retirement, Fury is stepping back into the ring for the first time since his loss to Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024. This bout marks the initial stage of his mission to reclaim a world title. Fury stated, "For the first time in a long time, I'm the one doing the chasing, not being chased." He added, "I'm the top dog in this division, and I plan to prove it repeatedly." Fury's long-term goal is to target the belts held by Usyk and Fabio Wardley, whom he refers to as the "so-called alphabetical world champions." He believes that eventually, they will all have to face him, asking, "Who else are they going to fight to make any money?" At 37 years old and after a period of inactivity, Fury will have to overcome doubts about his ability to make a successful comeback, including those expressed by his own father. He expressed confidence in his abilities, stating, "I'm still speedy, skillful, handsome, and destructive... I've never lost my speed or reactions." Fury cautioned against underestimating Makhmudov, saying, "All those other fighters can wait their turn to get beaten. Give this man the respect he deserves." He acknowledged Makhmudov's reputation as a quick starter, with 17 knockouts in the first couple of rounds. Fury asserted, "I've never underestimated anyone in my life, and I certainly haven't overlooked this opponent." He expressed sympathy for Makhmudov, saying, "I'm going to make an example of him. I'll knock his head right off his shoulders. I'm ready to put on a show."
