Glasgow's Champions Cup Hopes Shattered by Toulon in Quarter-Final

Glasgow Warriors' bid to reach their first Investec Champions Cup semi-final was thwarted by a 22-19 defeat to RC Toulon at Scotstoun. Despite being favourites due to their strong home form and Toulon's domestic struggles, Franco Smith's side fell short. The three-time European champions Toulon secured a last-four clash against Leinster or Sale by edging the match with four tries to Glasgow's three. A late change saw Macenzzie Duncan replace the injured Max Williamson on the bench. Glasgow took the lead after a cautious start, with Toulon racking up penalties in their own 22. Alex Samuel and Ben Afshar combined to send Stafford McDowall over for the first try. Toulon responded quickly, with Jeremy Sinzelle and Gael Drean combining for their first try. A trademark Kyle Steyn run put Glasgow back in Toulon territory, but Sione Tuipulotu was held up just short of the line. Toulon's ill-discipline was punished when Junior Kpoku was yellow-carded, and Glasgow capitalized with Ollie Smith scoring. The hosts soon found themselves on the back foot, with Jean-Baptiste Gros scoring a converted try to level the score at 12-12. Toulon took the lead with Melvyn Jaminet passing to Drean for his second try. Glasgow regained the lead in the second half, with Gregor Hiddleston scoring from a lineout maul. Toulon eventually broke through with Nacho Brex scoring, and despite a late Glasgow flurry, they sealed the win. Meanwhile, Leinster Rugby booked their place in the semi-finals with a 43-13 win over Sale Sharks, scoring six tries. They will face Toulon in the next round.
