Mercedes Intensifies Efforts to Enhance Race Starts

According to George Russell, the Mercedes team is putting in significant effort behind the scenes to improve their race starts, ahead of the Formula 1 season resuming in Miami. Despite achieving four front row lockouts in the first three Grands Prix and Sprint, neither Russell nor his teammate has managed to take the lead after the opening lap. The team's biggest weakness lies in their starts, but they have consistently demonstrated sufficient pace to bounce back and secure wins in the initial three races. Ferrari has shown exceptional starting skills this season, thanks to their compact turbo, which enables quicker spin-up and easier launch timing. Drivers have limited opportunities to practice starts, restricted to the end of free practice sessions during Grand Prix weekends. Russell emphasized that while direct practice is scarce, the team is dedicated to analyzing data to address their sole significant flaw. In an interview with Sky Germany during Pirelli tire testing in Germany, Russell stated, 'There's a tremendous amount of work being done behind the scenes.' The team is leveraging simulator analysis and data review to identify areas for improvement, with a focus on the upcoming sprint races in Miami and Montreal.
