Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike will miss the remainder of the season and the World Cup after suffering a serious Achilles injury. The 23-year-old was forced off during the Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain and scans have confirmed a rupture of the Achilles tendon, which could keep him out for up to nine months. Ekitike had become a key player for Liverpool, scoring 19 goals this season after signing from Eintracht Frankfurt for £79m last summer.
His absence is a significant blow to the team, who are fighting to secure a place in next season's Champions League. France head coach Didier Deschamps expressed his support for Ekitike, saying he is convinced the striker will regain his top form.
Liverpool's season has been marred by injuries, with Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, and other key players also missing game time due to various ailments.
