World Snooker Championship Schedule: Ronnie O'Sullivan Eyes Historic Eighth Title

The World Snooker Championship returns to the Crucible, with defending champion Zhao Xintong aiming to overcome the 'Crucible Curse' and become the first debut winner to successfully defend the title. Ronnie O'Sullivan will make a bid for a record-breaking eighth world title, competing against top players such as Judd Trump, Mark Selby, Kyren Wilson, Neil Robertson, and Shaun Murphy. The tournament, which has been running since 1927, is steeped in history, having been dominated by legends like Joe Davis, Steve Davis, and Stephen Hendry. O'Sullivan, who will be making his 34th consecutive appearance at the iconic venue, is the last first-time champion to have reached the semi-finals. The top 16 seeds, including Mark Allen, Xiao Guodong, Mark Williams, and Barry Hawkins, will be drawn at random against the 16 players who come through the qualifying rounds. All first-round matches are best of 19 frames, with seeds in brackets. The tournament schedule includes matches between Zhao Xintong and Liam Highfield, Ding Junhui and David Gilbert, Xiao Guodong and Zhou Yuelong, and Shaun Murphy and Fan Zhengyi. Judd Trump, the world number one, will begin his bid for a second world title with morning and evening sessions on April 21. O'Sullivan will start his campaign on the same day at 2:30 pm. If O'Sullivan and John Higgins both make it through the opening round, they will face each other in the last 16. The winner of the tournament will receive a significant prize, with additional bonuses for maximum breaks made at the main stage and in the qualifying rounds. A bonus of £147,000 is also on offer to any player who makes two maximums across the season's Triple Crown events and the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters. Since 1977, there have been 24 different champions, with Stephen Hendry and Ronnie O'Sullivan sharing the record of seven crowns apiece.
