Van Leuven Vows to Continue Fighting After Darts Governing Body Bans Transgender Women

Noa-Lynn Van Leuven has expressed her determination to keep fighting after the Darts Regulation Authority announced a ban on transgender women competing in women's tournaments. The 29-year-old, who has won six titles on the women's tour since 2022, stated that the decision is not just about her, but also a significant blow to the trans community. Van Leuven, known as 'The Duchess', has been a trailblazer in the sport, becoming the first trans woman to play in a TV tournament at the Women's Matchplay in 2023 and making history by winning a Challenger Tour event in 2024. Although she will still be able to compete in open tournaments, Van Leuven expressed her disappointment and frustration with the decision, saying it feels like she's being forced into retirement. The DRA's ruling comes after a review of its policies, which included a report from an academic developmental biologist and extensive legal advice. Van Leuven has received support from fellow players, including Michael van Gerwen and Luke Humphries, who have spoken out against the ban. Despite the setback, Van Leuven remains determined to continue playing darts and fighting for her right to compete, saying 'This isn't the end. I'm just going back to the drawing board. I'm not done fighting.'
