Newcastle United anticipates that Anthony Gordon may be open to a transfer this summer. The England international has garnered significant interest from top-tier clubs, with Bayern Munich and Arsenal emerging as prominent suitors. Gordon is among several high-profile players who could potentially leave Newcastle, alongside Sandro Tonali and Tino Livramento, as English and European clubs express interest. Although Gordon has not explicitly stated his desire to leave, a substantial offer could prompt his departure.
Newcastle maintains a strong negotiating position, given Gordon's contract extends until 2030. Ideally, the club would prefer to retain both Gordon and Tonali; however, they have acknowledged the need to 'trade' this summer to facilitate a rebuild of their first-team squad.
Tonali has attracted multiple suitors, while Manchester City has expressed interest in Livramento, whose contract has only two years remaining. None of the players have formally requested a transfer, but there is an understanding that one, two, or all three may seek new challenges this summer. Gordon has continued to train and play professionally, without agitating for a move.
According to Sky Sports News' North East correspondent Keith Downie, 'Having been with Newcastle for over three seasons, there is a real chance Gordon could leave this summer. The prospect of no Champions League football may not be ideal for Newcastle to retain him beyond the summer.' Downie adds that Newcastle would likely seek a significant outlay, potentially around double the £40m (+£5m) they paid for Gordon in 2023, considering his four-year contract and impressive performance as the third-top scorer in the Champions League this season. If Newcastle were to secure £75m-£80m for Gordon, it would grant them greater freedom in the market and provide valuable funds for the manager to spend.
