Littler Shrugs Off Hostile Reception in Rotterdam with Confidence

Luke Littler remained unfazed by the hostile crowd in Rotterdam during Night 11 of the Premier League Darts, stating that the negative reception was 'exactly what I expected'. The audience booed Littler throughout his three matches, a continuation of the backlash following his altercation with Dutch player Gian van Veen from Night Nine in Manchester. Van Veen had won a contentious match, prompting Littler to react angrily after his opponent turned towards him while throwing match darts. Van Veen accused Littler of being 'out of order' for celebrating towards the crowd. Littler advanced to the final, where he ultimately lost to Premier League leader Jonny Clayton. 'I knew as soon as I stepped on stage, I could do my job,' Littler told Sky Sports. Before his first match against Gerwyn Price, Littler claimed he would not react to the crowd's taunts. However, during his semi-final clash with Luke Humphries, he couldn't resist responding to the audience. When Littler took out tops to level the match at 2-2, he gave a 'calm down' gesture to a section of the crowd and added some flamboyant flourishes with his darts in the next leg. Sky Sports commentator Wayne Mardle noted, 'Littler said he wouldn't react, but he just did - and the crowd doesn't like it!' Mardle added, 'I think he's had enough of not reacting. He's strutting and giving it his all now. When he has this swagger, he's tough to deal with.' Littler defeated Price 6-3 and edged out Humphries 6-5 before losing to Clayton 6-4 in the final, despite claiming the first two legs in impressive fashion. Clayton's fourth nightly win of the 2026 campaign stretched his lead over Littler to five points at the top of the table. Clayton praised Littler after the final, saying, 'I have total respect for Luke. He's an amazing darts player and has shown us the level we need to beat him.' Sky Sports' Glen Durrant also commended Littler for his response to the Dutch crowd's taunts throughout the night, stating, 'It's brutal in here tonight. I'm not sure I would have had the mental capacity to deal with it, but Littler is different.'
