McIlroy Vows to Improve for Masters Victory

Rory McIlroy acknowledged that he must elevate his game to retain the Masters title after relinquishing a six-shot lead during the third round. Despite starting with impressive rounds of 67 and 65, McIlroy's one-over par 73 on Saturday left him tied with Cameron Young at 11 under. McIlroy struggled with iron accuracy, hitting only 10 of the 18 greens in regulation, and made three bogeys along with a double bogey at the 11th after finding the water. In a post-round interview with Sky Sports Golf, McIlroy stated, "I knew today wasn't going to be easy. The quality of the chasing pack was very obvious, and a lot of the guys went out and played superb golf." He expressed his intention to improve, saying, "I'll need to be better tomorrow." McIlroy remains optimistic about his chances, citing his experience and the fact that he's in the final group, which is "exactly where you want to be." He believes that having won the title last year and playing in a different final group will aid his chances, allowing him to "play a little bit freer" and "like I've already got a green jacket, which I do." Sky Sports Golf's Rich Beem thinks McIlroy's resilience will enable him to bounce back from the disappointment of losing his lead and perform well in the final round.
