Transgender Women Barred from Participating in Female Darts Competitions

The Darts Regulation Authority has introduced a new policy stating that only individuals assigned female at birth will be eligible to compete in women's darts tournaments. This decision follows a comprehensive review of the organization's Trans and Gender Diverse Policy, which included a report by a developmental biologist and consideration of extensive legal advice and recent court rulings. As a result, transgender women will no longer be able to participate in women's events, although they can continue to compete in open tournaments. Noa-Lynn van Leuven, a prominent transgender darts player, has expressed strong criticism of the decision, describing it as a significant setback for the transgender community. Van Leuven, who has won multiple titles on the women's tour, stated that the decision has effectively ended her competitive career. The DRA has emphasized its commitment to inclusivity, encouraging all players to participate in open tournaments, and will continue to monitor developments in transgender participation in sports.
