Fernandez is seeking improved terms on his contract, but his recent comments may have hindered his cause. Fernandez had cast doubt over his future at Chelsea following their Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, stating 'I don't know' when asked if he would remain at the club next season. During an interview in Argentina, Fernandez mentioned that he likes Madrid, comparing it to Buenos Aires, and stated he would consider living there. Rosenior addressed the situation, stating that 'a line was crossed' in terms of the club's culture, resulting in a sanction. Fernandez's agent, Javier Pastore, deemed the decision to drop him for two games 'completely unfair,' arguing that Fernandez did not mention any club or express a desire to leave Chelsea. Pastore revealed that contract renewal talks have stalled, with the terms not being suitable for the player. The plan is to revisit negotiations after the World Cup, exploring other options if an agreement is not reached. Rosenior has since downplayed the situation, stating that he and Fernandez are in a good place and that things are not as they seem.
