Barron Aims for Perfect Season Finale with Title Win and World Cup Spot
Rangers midfielder Connor Barron is eyeing a dream conclusion to the season, seeking to clinch the Scottish Premiership title and secure a place in Steve Clarke's Scotland squad for the upcoming World Cup. Following a knee injury that kept him sidelined for over two months, the 23-year-old has recently returned to action and is determined to make a lasting impression. Barron's pre-injury form had earned him back-to-back call-ups to the national team in October and November, where he was part of the historic squad that qualified for the World Cup with a memorable 4-2 win over Denmark at Hampden Park. Since his return in mid-March, Barron has been limited to substitute appearances for Rangers, with January signing Tochi Chukwuani preferred as the midfield partner of Belgium international Nico Raskin. However, Barron is resolute in his pursuit of playing a crucial role in the title race and catching Clarke's attention ahead of the World Cup. With intense competition for a spot in the Scotland squad, Barron will be vying for the eighth midfield position, competing against the likes of Andy Irving and several uncapped domestic players. When asked what he could bring to the national team, Barron stated, 'I think I could bring my energy, composure on the ball, and tenacity off it. There's a lot of things within my game that I feel I could bring to the team.' Barron's ultimate goal is to participate in the World Cup, an opportunity he considers a 'dream come true.' Rangers currently trail leaders Hearts by one point with five games remaining, and Barron believes his team has the right mindset to navigate the demands of a three-way title contest. 'We've got a really strong group, we've come through a lot this season, and we're in a great position at the moment,' he said. 'We've definitely got the right mindset, everyone's pushing in the right direction, everyone's hungry to go and win the league, and hopefully we can go and do it.' Barron is eager for more first-team opportunities in the run-in, having come on as a substitute in Sunday's 6-3 win over Falkirk. 'Yeah, it's obviously good to be back, good to be back on the pitch, training and being involved in the games as well,' he added. 'So yeah, I'm just hungry for more. I'm ready and just need to keep going, showing what I can do and keeping my standards high every day to get myself back into the team.'
