Andoni Iraola to Depart Bournemouth as Club Shortlists Three Potential Replacements

Bournemouth's head coach, Andoni Iraola, has announced his decision to leave the club at the end of the season. Following this news, Sky Sports News reports that former RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund manager Marco Rose is among the top three candidates being considered to succeed Iraola. Iraola's contract is set to expire in three months, and despite numerous offers to extend his stay, he has chosen not to renew, amid interest from his former club Athletic Club and other Premier League teams. With six games remaining in his tenure at Bournemouth, Iraola expressed that this is the right time for him to step down. His final home game will be against Manchester City on May 17, followed by a trip to Nottingham Forest on the last day of the Premier League season. Although Bournemouth attempted to persuade Iraola to stay, there remains mutual respect between the two parties. The search for a new head coach has been ongoing, with three favored candidates on the shortlist. Bournemouth, currently ranked 11th, has the possibility of ending Iraola's time on a high note with a first European qualification in the club's history still within reach. Iraola has been a well-liked figure at Bournemouth since his appointment in June 2023, implementing an attacking and dynamic style of football. The club finished ninth in the Premier League table last season, achieving a club-record 56 points. Iraola had to navigate the sales of several key players this season, including Dean Huijsen, Milos Kerkez, and Illia Zabarnyi, for a total of £253m. As one of the Premier League's most sought-after coaching prospects, Iraola's next destination is uncertain. Athletic Club has expressed interest in bringing him back to the Basque Country, while other clubs, such as Crystal Palace and Tottenham, have also been linked to him in the past. Manchester United and Newcastle are also rumored to be potential destinations, although nothing has been confirmed.
