Adam Peaty Claims British 100m Title, Sets Sights on Los Angeles 2028

Adam Peaty, a three-time Olympic gold medalist, secured the 100 meters breaststroke title at the Aquatic Great Britain Swimming Championships with a time of 58.97 seconds, the second-fastest time globally this season. This impressive performance indicates that the 32-year-old athlete could be a strong contender for a medal at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. Peaty outperformed world junior champion Filip Nowacki, who came in second with a time of 59.39, and Max Morgan, who finished third with a time of 59.56. Despite his victory, Peaty believes there is still room for improvement, stating, 'I didn't think I could achieve that result, so that's now the marker, that's the baseline.' He expressed his desire to further reduce his time, saying, 'How do we turn that into a low 57 again?' Peaty, a six-time Olympic medalist, emphasized his passion for swimming and his commitment to the sport, training daily and striving to extract the best from himself. It has been almost a year since Peaty announced his decision to continue competing, following a break from swimming in 2023 due to mental health issues. Peaty has an impressive track record, having won the Olympic 100m breaststroke title at Rio 2016 and retained it at Tokyo 2020, in addition to claiming gold in the 4x100m mixed medley relay in Japan. At the Paris 2024 Games, Peaty won silver in the 100m breaststroke due to physical issues, including a positive Covid test. If he wins a gold medal at the 2028 Olympics, he will become the oldest British swimmer to achieve this feat at the age of 33.
