Tom Watson Criticizes PGA Tour for Allowing LIV Golf Defectors to Return

Golf legend Tom Watson has expressed disappointment with the PGA Tour's decision to allow players who defected to the LIV Golf League to return to the tour. The PGA Tour introduced a program to facilitate the return of a select group of top performers, with Brooks Koepka being one of the first to take advantage of the opportunity. As part of his reinstatement, Koepka made a $5 million charitable donation. Watson believes that the tour has reneged on its promise to ban players who left for LIV Golf, stating that he would have imposed a lifetime ban if he were the commissioner. Instead, the PGA Tour has offered a route back for certain players, including Patrick Reed, who will return after serving a one-year suspension. Watson argues that the decision undermines the tour's rules and compromises its relationships with sponsors. Reed, meanwhile, has confirmed his departure from LIV Golf and will play on the DP World Tour until he is eligible to return to the PGA Tour, citing his desire to compete against the best players in the world.
