Mercedes Intensifies Efforts to Enhance Race Starts

According to George Russell, the Mercedes team is diligently working to improve their race starts ahead of the upcoming Miami Grand Prix in May. Despite achieving four front-row lockouts in the first three Grands Prix and Sprint, neither Russell nor his teammate has managed to take the lead after the opening lap. The team's biggest weakness lies in their starts, but they have shown sufficient pace to bounce back and secure wins in the initial three races. Ferrari has demonstrated exceptional starting skills this season, thanks to their compact turbo, which enables quicker spin-up times and facilitates finding the ideal launch window. While drivers have limited opportunities to practice starts during Grand Prix weekends, Russell emphasizes that the team is focusing on analyzing data to address their significant flaw. In an interview with Sky Germany during Pirelli tire testing in Germany, Russell highlighted the extensive work being done behind the scenes, including simulator analysis and data examination. The team is preparing for the upcoming Sprint races in Miami and Montreal, and Russell expressed his hope that they can build on their current understanding of their starting issues to achieve better results.
