Sam Gilley is leaving a disappointing year behind as he prepares to face Aston Brown in Glasgow, marking his transition to the middleweight division. Following a draw with Gideon Onyenani and a narrow loss to Ishmael Davis in his bid for the British super-welterweight title, Gilley is determined to put the past behind him.
"I believe I won both fights, but it was just a bad year. It taught me valuable lessons about myself and my character," he reflected. Gilley still harbors ambitions of claiming the Lonsdale belt, an opportunity he hopes will arise again. However, one fight he refuses to entertain is a rematch with Louis Greene, citing the souring of their relationship after Greene pulled out of their scheduled rematch twice.
"I'm willing to fight anyone, but I'll never give Louis Greene another chance. He wasted two years of my career," Gilley stated firmly. As he faces Brown, a former international amateur with notable punching power, Gilley is confident in his ability to withstand the challenge.
"I was built for the tough fights in the pros. Let's see if Brown can keep up," he said, driven by his passion and the need to make his career pay off.
