Kent Struggles Against Northants as Crawley's Form Raises Concerns

Kent's batting woes continued as they trailed Northamptonshire, who posted a record 684 for two declared, with Zak Crawley's form under scrutiny after his third consecutive sub-30 score. Ricardo Vasconcelos, Luke Procter, and Calvin Harrison all scored hundreds on the opening day, while Nathan McSweeney reached three figures on Saturday, making it the first time Northants' top four have all made centuries. Procter's unbeaten 261, a maiden double ton, headlined Northants' dominance before Kent's reply stumbled, losing Ben Compton and Sam Northeast cheaply, with Crawley's 26 the highlight of a struggling Kent innings. Crawley's England spot is under pressure after a disappointing Ashes and an average of just over 31 in 64 matches, and his recent form has done little to alleviate concerns, as he fell to Harry Conway for 26. Meanwhile, Ben Duckett, Crawley's England opening partner, was run out for one as Nottinghamshire built a commanding lead over Glamorgan, thanks to Joe Clarke's 136. Ben McKinney boosted his chances of displacing either Crawley or Duckett with a 244 for Durham against Gloucestershire, where Kemar Roach and Ben Raine claimed three wickets apiece to cement Durham's dominance. Craig Overton's career-best 141 lifted Somerset to 348 in response to Essex's 149, while Rishi Patel's unbeaten 133 and Jake Weatherald's 96 helped Leicestershire fight back against Surrey. Sonny Baker and Kyle Abbott claimed four wickets apiece to skittle Yorkshire, and Hampshire took control with a 167-run lead, as Rob Yates' unbeaten 75 underpinned Warwickshire's 154 for five and a lead of 217 against Sussex. Harry Came's 83 and Brooke Guest's 60 not out helped Derbyshire respond to Lancashire's 351, while fifties for Daniel Lategan and Jake Libby helped Worcestershire take a 208-run lead against Middlesex.
