Evan Williams, a 55-year-old trainer, has been sentenced to three years in prison for attacking a 72-year-old dog walker on his property. The incident occurred on December 4, 2024, in Llancarfan, Vale of Glamorgan, south Wales, and left the victim, Martin Dandridge, with serious injuries, including a fractured arm.
Williams was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent after a trial at Cardiff Crown Court. During the sentencing, the judge, Recorder Angharad Price, stated that Williams had made a choice to confront Mr Dandridge instead of waiting for the police to arrive. The judge also referenced a previous incident where Williams had been threatened with a shotgun by poachers on his land, but emphasized that it is never acceptable to take the law into one's own hands.
Williams, a successful trainer with multiple Grade One wins, including at the Cheltenham Festival, will now serve a three-year prison sentence.
