Injury Forces Draper's Early Exit in Barcelona as Norrie Advances

Jack Draper's clay-court season got off to a disappointing start as he was forced to retire due to injury in the deciding set of his first-round match against Tomas Martin Etcheverry at the Barcelona Open. Draper had won the first set 6-3, but struggled with his movement thereafter, and despite receiving medical attention, he was unable to continue, trailing 4-1 in the third set. His opponent, Etcheverry, praised Draper's competitiveness, saying 'He was playing unbelievable... He is a great competitor. I liked how he plays. He's a great fighter and hopefully he can recover as soon as he can to get back on tour because the tour likes him.' Draper, who has been sidelined since last August's US Open due to a left-arm injury, will now look to recover in time for the ATP Masters 1000 event in Madrid. Meanwhile, British No 1 Cameron Norrie booked his place in the second round with a hard-fought three-set win over Stan Wawrinka, securing a 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 6-4 victory. Norrie will now face American Ethan Quinn in the next round. In other news, Katie Boulter eased into the last 16 of the Rouen Open with a dominant 6-2 6-2 win over Maria Timofeeva, and will look to build on this momentum as she targets a good run in the tournament.
