Can India Afford to Overlook Sooryavanshi, and Will He Make His Mark on England?

At just 15 years old, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has cemented his place in cricket history as the youngest player to score a century in the IPL, achieving this feat merely nine days after his record-breaking debut at the age of 14 in 2025. Now, Sooryavanshi continues to impress, fueling discussions about his potential debut on the international stage. His inaugural IPL season was marked by a stunning 35-ball hundred at 14, and he has consistently demonstrated his ability to perform under pressure with the Rajasthan Royals in the 2026 edition. Sooryavanshi has already achieved two 15-ball fifties, against the Chennai Super Kings and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and ranks as the third-highest run-scorer in the tournament with 200 runs from five innings at an impressive strike rate of 263.15. Although a golden duck in the defeat to the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday reminded everyone that Sooryavanshi is human, his remarkable ball-striking power, physical presence, and composure at the crease have left seasoned professionals in awe. "We are amazed by his hitting ability; he is a great talent, and we feel fortunate to have him on our team," said India and Rajasthan Royals wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel. "When Vaibhav is smashing every ball, it makes you feel like nothing is happening on the wicket. Cricket is not as easy as he makes it look." With potential teammates like Jurel praising his skills, it raises an important question. Given India's wealth of emerging talent and their T20 team's recent World Cup victory, it remains to be seen whether the selectors will choose to alter a winning formula. However, occasionally a player emerges who is too special to be ignored. Sooryavanshi appears to be in the same league as cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal. His impressive 175 in the U19 World Cup final in February, which led India to a 100-run victory over England and a record sixth title, demonstrates his ability to excel against the best.
