Rangers Stage Thrilling Comeback to Keep Pressure on Hearts

Rangers mounted a remarkable recovery at Falkirk, staying firmly in contention for the Scottish Premiership title with just five games remaining. Following wins by Hearts and Celtic on Saturday, Danny Röhl's team began the day in third place, and their situation seemed to worsen when Ben Broggio and Finn Yeats gave the Bairns a 2-0 lead. Tochi Chukwanui scored before halftime, and a blistering start to the second half saw Rangers take a 3-2 lead after Youssef Chermiti and Nico Raskin scored. Rangers increased the tempo, with Bojan Miovski adding a fourth before Falkirk's Calvin Miller scored their third from the penalty spot after James Tavernier fouled Filip Lissah. However, Danny Röhl's team demonstrated their title credentials as both Miovski and Chermiti scored again to put the game out of reach. Rangers have reclaimed second place, one point behind leaders Hearts, with Celtic two points further back. Previously this season, the Premiership's top three teams had all won on the same weekend only once, a record Rangers did not want to end. Chukwuani's disputed goal just before halftime sparked an incredible comeback. The home team seemed to stop in anticipation of a goal kick after Raskin's cross curled over the goalmouth seconds after Thelo Aasgaard hit the post. However, the ball landed on Djeidi Gassama's head, whose header hit the post before Chukwuani converted the rebound. Röhl's introduction of Bojan Miovski for Mikey Moore at halftime was a crucial change. Gassama was moved to the left and won the ball on the edge of the Falkirk box, with his low cross flicked home by Chermiti, who soon missed a decent chance to put his team in front. Rangers posed a much greater threat and took the lead in the 52nd minute when Raskin ran around the outside of Aasgaard and hit the Norwegian's pass first time into the far corner. Chermiti missed another chance before Raskin set up Miovski to bundle home with a cross from the left. Falkirk got a lifeline in the 70th minute when Miller netted from the spot after Tavernier brought down Filip Lissah. But Raskin was involved again when Rangers restored their two-goal cushion, bursting forward before Chermiti netted after Gassama's shot was blocked. The Belgian midfielder was eventually booked for a clash with Dylan Tait after earlier escaping yellow cards for a clear pull and embracing Rangers fans after his goal. Miovski sealed the scoring two minutes from time when he converted Oliver Antman's low cross from close range. Rangers head coach Danny Röhl spoke to Sky Sports: "Our start was not good. It was exactly what we'd expect, and we struggled in the first 10-15 minutes with the pitch. "But there was an outstanding reaction. We focus on our job to do. "It's much easier to go into this small break with a win, of course, but the spirit is great, and after the game, you see the relationship, the connection between our supporters and the team. "We are one team now, and this is great. "Looking back, four or five months ago, I was in this situation here in Falkirk, and today after the game [when Russell Martin was sacked]. "It shows a lot about our direction from the club and keeping going, keeping believing what the supporters told us, and that's what we have to do.
