Augusta National Golf Tournament: Final Results and Standings

The final standings for the Masters golf tournament, the first major of the year, are in. The event, held at Augusta National in Augusta, Georgia, saw a thrilling conclusion. Rory McIlroy, the defending champion, made history by successfully defending his title, becoming the first player to do so since Tiger Woods. He achieved this by completing the career Grand Slam last year, joining an elite group of only five other players. McIlroy's victory came after he posted a one-under 71, finishing just one stroke ahead of world number one Scottie Scheffler, who was the pre-tournament favorite despite not having a top 10 finish in his last three PGA Tour starts. Tyrrell Hatton finished in tied-third place, alongside Justin Rose, Cameron Young, and Russell Henley, while Collin Morikawa and Sam Burns shared seventh place. The top 10 was rounded off by Max Homa and Xander Schauffele. Other notable players, such as Patrick Reed and Shane Lowry, had a disappointing final round, with Reed finishing five under and Lowry slipping out of contention after an eight-over 80. The Masters is the first of four majors in men's golf, followed by the PGA Championship in May, the US Open in June, and the Open in July. The PGA Tour now heads to South Carolina for the RBC Heritage, where Justin Thomas will be defending his title. The next men's major, the PGA Championship, will take place from May 14-17 at Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania, and will be live on Sky Sports.
