Evan Williams Sentenced to Three Years in Prison for Assaulting Dog Walker

Horse trainer Evan Williams, 55, has been sentenced to three years in prison for a violent assault on a 72-year-old dog walker, Martin Dandridge, who was walking on Williams' land in Llancarfan, Vale of Glamorgan, south Wales. The incident, which took place on December 4, 2024, left Mr Dandridge with serious injuries, including a fractured arm, after being repeatedly struck with a hockey stick. Williams was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent by a unanimous jury at Cardiff Crown Court in March, following a trial. During sentencing, Recorder Angharad Price condemned Williams' actions, stating that he had made a choice to confront Mr Dandridge instead of waiting for police to arrive. The judge highlighted an earlier incident where Williams had been threatened with a shotgun by poachers on his land, but emphasized that taking the law into his own hands was never acceptable. Williams, a successful Grade One-winning trainer, will now serve a three-year prison term, and his wife, Cath, has taken over his licence.
